The real reason you can’t stick to your goals

Have you ever gotten yourself so worked up and excited about a goal but failed to achieve it despite wanting it so badly? Then you spend the next few months beating yourself up over not being able to stick to anything. You feel hopeless, consoling yourself that you will never be able to reach any of your goals and that you’re a big, fat failure. Sound familiar? This scenario is extremely common. I’ve been there and I’m guessing you have too. And no, it’s not you. Or me. It’s the goals we’re setting for ourselves. Or rather, the goals our…

We’re officially treechangers!

I can confirm two things since moving to the country two days ago. One: Baby’s and moving don’t mix. Baby’s love to eat cardboard (well mine does – is that weird?) and there’s a lot of cardboard around when you move house. I’ve spent the last three days chasing around an active soon-to-be-toddler, pinky at the ready, repeatedly fishing out soggy cardboard pellets from the roof of said toddler’s mouth. Brilliant. The second thing I’ve learnt? Cats that have been trapped in a small box/feline jail in a car for hours will find a way to escape upon reaching their…

10 Questions to help you uncover your Why

Figuratively speaking, your Why cannot be yelled out to from across the street. It must be coaxed out from the shadows by a whisper, and without eye contact. And as a result, it’s often not what we – or our ego – thinks it is. Therefore, we need to employ some cunning techniques to cut to the core of what we really, truly want from our lives and the purpose within us. I’m currently working on a Why Roadmap which I’ll be launching in the next couple of months. It will go through how to uncover your Why in detail,…

So long, Melbourne

How do you say goodbye to a city? Do you give it a firm, lingering hug? Tell it you’ll visit all the time and that no one will ever replace it? Do you write it a love letter, or just brush it off insisting that it’s not you, it’s me? I’m yet to decide on the goodbye I will give this vibrant city of Melbourne. I am going to miss it. It hasn’t really sunk in yet, even though we’re sleeping surrounded by boxes and empty cupboards. Our treasured art stacked against the wall. We’ve only been back in Melbourne…

Saying no and saying yes

It’s now one week until moving day, so of course we’re in the thick of packing, right? Wrong! We’re currently in Brisbane escaping the Melbourne winter and spending some time with family. Good times. The last few weeks have been a blur of broken sleep, teething, packing and trying to get organised for our move. It’s been exhausting. My past antidote to this state is to go on a little trip somewhere, but that kind of spontaneity hasn’t really been possible over the last year due to the realities of life with a baby. But this time I decided to…

My Values

Today I want to share my Values and give some context around how these concepts shape my life. Last week I shared my Why, which you can read here. I’d also recommend going back and reading the Values and Why post if you haven’t done so already. Along with my Why, these three Values underpin pretty much all that I do, and the way I live my life. Here they are: Adventure – Always have fun, take the road less travelled and explore the world Responsibility – To myself, my family, the planet Lifelong Learning – Always keep learning, keep…

The unexpected power of journaling

I never understood the power that one simple task done daily could have on my life until now. On new year’s day January 2017 I woke up bleary eyed not from a night of partying, but from another night as the Mum of a two-month-old baby. I barely had enough time to shower, let alone ponder new year’s resolutions. I was resigned to just surviving the coming year, expectant of the further depths of sleep deprivation that were ahead of me (and oh how right I was on that front!) As I sorted through Christmas presents that morning I came…

My Why

Last week I have a general overview of Values and Why and how you can use these two concepts to help you live a more meaningful, intentional life. Today I want to share with you my Why. Here it is: My Why is to enable our family to be healthy and live a life full of adventure, contribution, growth and experiences. Thats it! Pretty brief hey? It may be simple but it encompasses so many of the components that I, and my family value. I’ve tried and tried to come up with something better, but I can’t. So this is…

The regret of change

Buying our house in the country is the biggest emotional purchase we’ve ever made so it’s only natural to feel some trepidation right? Yes, we have invested in property before but it never felt that life-changing. This is much different. It’s ours. For a nomadic type this has been something to get my head around. Commitment. Gulp. Buying a home was my idea. It kind of crept up on me over the past year and I allowed the idea to permeate my consciousness instead of making up excuses as to why it wouldn’t work and quickly burying it – my…
