Living a Values based life

I’ve talked a lot about living in alignment with your Values and figuring out your Why, but you may be wondering what that actually looks like in everyday life. Figuring out your Why is certainly the most important piece of the puzzle but after that’s done you also need to translate that into the actions you take every day. Your Values are the day to day translation of your Why. They are more specific and prescriptive and therefore can more easily guide your decisions or plans. So what does it look like to live a Values based life? It might…

Is your life in alignment with your Why?

Two years ago I left my corporate job in London to start my own business. It had been a dream of mine for years and I had counted down the days until I could hand in my resignation – a symbol of all the hard work, saving and sacrifice that I had put into making that day a reality. I was literally working seven days a week for two years just to be able to start enjoying my life. Looking back, it seems crazy. The problem was – and I had no idea at the time – I didn’t actually…

Home is where the Why is

We’ve been in our new home for almost two weeks now and it’s starting to feel less like a holiday and more like everyday life. The realities of this 130-year-old house have become apparent, like the drafts that seem to pour from every window and the wonky floors. But also the hidden treasures, too. Like the huge windows that let in the morning sun and the lush garden that can be seen from every window in the house. It’s definitely not a house lacking personality. The hard things, like the lack of central heating, make me thankful for all of…

The real reason you can’t stick to your goals

Have you ever gotten yourself so worked up and excited about a goal but failed to achieve it despite wanting it so badly? Then you spend the next few months beating yourself up over not being able to stick to anything. You feel hopeless, consoling yourself that you will never be able to reach any of your goals and that you’re a big, fat failure. Sound familiar? This scenario is extremely common. I’ve been there and I’m guessing you have too. And no, it’s not you. Or me. It’s the goals we’re setting for ourselves. Or rather, the goals our…

10 Questions to help you uncover your Why

Figuratively speaking, your Why cannot be yelled out to from across the street. It must be coaxed out from the shadows by a whisper, and without eye contact. And as a result, it’s often not what we – or our ego – thinks it is. Therefore, we need to employ some cunning techniques to cut to the core of what we really, truly want from our lives and the purpose within us. I’m currently working on a Why Roadmap which I’ll be launching in the next couple of months. It will go through how to uncover your Why in detail,…

My Why

Last week I have a general overview of Values and Why and how you can use these two concepts to help you live a more meaningful, intentional life. Today I want to share with you my Why. Here it is: My Why is to enable our family to be healthy and live a life full of adventure, contribution, growth and experiences. Thats it! Pretty brief hey? It may be simple but it encompasses so many of the components that I, and my family value. I’ve tried and tried to come up with something better, but I can’t. So this is…

Values and Why

Spending time thinking about my Values and Why has been a game changer for me. Something clicked when I discovered each of these crucial concepts and it’s made thinking about my actions and schedule much simpler. In no uncertain terms, it’s been completely life changing. Not only have these realisations crystallised what I truly want from my future, they have made clear what I don’t want. They have allowed me to pinpoint what I want to spend my time doing day to day – with all that free time being the mum of a 9-month-old affords me! I’m going to…

The problem with goal setting

I love goal setting. LOVE it. Big picture thinking comes easily to me, and I could do it all day, every day. Dreaming big, imagining success and setting tasks for myself to achieve them is pure bliss. I’m learning however, that goal setting has a dark side. Setting goals and working towards them comes naturally, and helps move me towards a happier life, but it also feeds my perfectionism and tendency to burnout on everything that I do. I don’t like these things about myself, and I’d much rather bury them deep in my subconscious. But they are important to…
